Six municipalities in the Nordstad region of Luxembourg, Colmar-Berg, Schieren, Ettelbruck, Erpeldange/Sûre, Diekirch et Bettendorf, formalised their commitment to local equality, signing the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life in a ceremony on 14 December 2016 in the district of Diekirch.

The project was initiated by Nordstad equality commissions and was voted and adopted by the local authorities in the six municipalities.

Nordstad currently counts 24,000 inhabitants and is the first network of Luxembourgish municipalities to sign the European Charter for Equality together. An action plan with common priorities, that also take into account the specificities of each municipality, will be drafted in the next two years.
